In the fantastic world of Avelion dominated by the Five Elements Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Metal, Riel's life flows quietly in the duchy of Pharmes in the middle of the plains. Raised by a powerful wizard who taught her the legends of the Ancient Faith now forgotten by all, the young girl grows up learning to live with her own quirks, which no one seems to want to explain to her.
Riel, in fact, is not like all the other inhabitants of Avelion, where the five elements are harmoniously mixed. She is only Water: the earth repels her and she struggles to walk; in her element, however, she is strong and determined, with no barriers to hold her back.
What is behind her existence?
The answer will come suddenly along with the destiny to which the girl is called: to become one of the five Carriers of the Legendary Weapons and try to restore Equilibrium among the peoples of Avelion. To do this she must set out in search of her origins and the beginning of everything. She will meet others who, like her, are looking for their own way, trying to overcome obstacles, limitations and insecurities, to reach a common destiny with the new awareness that sometimes diversity is the key to changing one's fate.
The first chapter of a saga full of twistand turns, in which humans, wizards, dwarves, elves and even a dragon coexist, unfolds in a setting that incorporates all the stylistic elements of the most classic and canonical fantasy, and whose locations are sometimes inspired by Italy. What makes “The Daughter of the Water”, and the whole world of Avelion in general, particularly remarkable, is the way in which the vicissitudes of its protagonists are narreted: much more real and almost entirely shot in the feminine, in a constant recollection between the fantastic and the real, a metaphor of redemption and revenge is outlined for those who are usually considered “different”.
"Drevanna? Do you know her?" The way the boy said the name sounded strange to her, full of feelings she couldn't understand.
Selema felt the same. The sweet face that stared at her, waiting for an answer, leaning as far as the bars would allow, made her think.
Although his hair was messy, covered in dust and dried mud, you could still see that it was bright golden brown. His eyes were green: a green so deep and bright that it looked like emeralds. At the bottom of those irises, different emotions came and went, like feeling restless and, probably, insecure.
"Of course, and very well," nodded the seamstress, confidently. "I have been working for our queen for more than ten years."
"What is she really like?"
"If you tell me your name, I will tell you about her."
After that, there was a long silence...
"Dreman. My name is Dreman."
"The lost prince? The son of King Dreron, who everyone believes died at birth and whose name, for this very reason, is forbidden to utter? Is that possible?!"
Selema looked at him for a moment too long, noticing the worry on the face staring back at her from the cell opposite hers. It was not a scary face, but a boy's face he was like a puppy that had been left alone and was trying to protect itself.
"What do you want to know about her?" she asked gently. He simply replied, "The truth." So she began to tell him what he wanted to know and what was right for him to know.
There is no truth.
This is the only truth.
Elemi, Dame, Deceiver... Nothing is as we have always known it to be, and no one but us is aware of this.
The Legendary Weapons chose us — or rather, others chose us — to wield them. They are the same ones who designated us as Carriers, entrusting us with the fate of Avelion.
The illusion that there was something or someone above us who could help and guide us has crumbled.
Against Deception and the greed of all, there is only us.
Ailus showed me how to defeat Evil. It is a magic that only the Five Weapons and their Warriors united can generate: the Sigil of Equilibrium.
They call it hope.
But what kind of hope is it that forces us to fight and shed innocent blood other than being trapped in the web of destiny?
Equilibrium cannot arise from death and destruction.
Our Weapons know pain all too well, so I will not allow them to cause any more suffering.
The Children cannot pay for the mistakes of their Parents.
The Elemi brought Evil into this world by breaking the laws they created themselves. Now, those of us who possess the power of the elements must protect Avelion and stop Evil.
